Coon Rapids – We grow kids, corn and bike trails.

Outdoor recreation abounds in and around Coon Rapids.  Whiterock Conservancy is 5,500 public acres along the scenic Middle Raccoon River Valley near Coon Rapids.  You can choose from over 40 miles of single track mountain bike trails or more than 20 miles of trails tailored for horse back riding, but of course, all of those trails are open for hiking as well.  While you are here, plan to fish from any of the 10 fully stocked ponds or schedule a guided ATV ride through the lush savannas, rolling pastures, wetlands, riverside bluffs and native prairies that make up Whiterock Conservancy.  Another great way to tour the scenic conservancy is down the Middle Raccoon River in a kayak or canoe. Stay for a few days in any of the local RV, rustic or tent campgrounds in the area.

If golf is your sport, bring your clubs for a quick – or long – game of golf at the Coon Rapids Golf Club. When you’re done, stop in the Club House and ask Cindy to make you a hot fried chicken salad!

As if that isn’t enough, you can swim at the Aquatic Center or get in a game of frisbee golf, tennis, softball or basketball at our sports complex. Before you go, pick up lunch at Frohlich’s SuperValu to eat in the shelter house at the city park.  Our suggestion – get a box of fresh broasted chicken, it’s perfect for a picnic at the park.

How about a game of bowling? Coon Bowl III offers bowling but is famous for their hamburger – voted Iowa’s Best Burger in 2012.

If you’re on Main Street, grab a bite at Chuck’s Bar and Grill, the best place in town to grab a steak sandwich.  After you fill up your stomach, do some shopping at Hardware Hank, Stacy’s Boutique or New Hope Bargain Shoppe.  On down the way, pay your respects at the Veterans Memorial Park.

On your way out of town, pick up a pizza at the Country Store and eat it while enjoying our sculpture park on Highway 141,
